State police say a convicted serial killer who’s serving a life sentence in a Florida prison, confessed to killing six people in Pennsylvania thus closing the unsolved cases.
Members of the PSP Troop D Criminal Investigation Assessment Unit announced they’ve cleared four unsolved homicide investigations by securing confessions from convicted murderer Edward Surratt.
They say Surratt is currently serving two life sentences for crimes he committed in Florida and murder in South Carolina.
Troopers say they began communicating with Surratt in 2018 from his Florida prison cell about the unsolved homicides.
They then traveled in March to the Raiford Correctional Facility in Raiford, Florida to interview Surratt.
They say Surratt implicated himself in four unsolved homicide cases from the 1970’s regarding the killings of six people.
The cases include: The killings of William and Nancy Adams Nov. 19, 1977 in Beaver County, Guy and Laura Mills Dec. 31, 1977 in McConnellsburg, Joel Krueger Dec. 31, 1977 in Bedford County and John Shelkons Jan. 7, 1978 in Beaver County.
District attorneys in each county agreed not to prosecute Surratt for the homicide cases since he is already serving life sentences in prison.
“PSP investigators never stopped seeking justice for the victims of these terrible crimes and their families,” said Lieutenant Colonel Scott Price, deputy commissioner of operations for the Pennsylvania State Police. “We hope that the confessions announced today will help bring some semblance of closure to the victims’ loved ones.”
